Uhh actually, in french, ignore something can mean to not know about something or to don't care about it. So ignorant is used for idiot. Well, not idiot, but ya know, ignorant

The new obscure term of overuse is "fraudulent"
As in "Man, that shit is fraudulent"
I can definately see the ignorant thing. Usually abbreviated as Ignant.

It is ironic, those who you the word ignorant improperly do so because they themselves are ignorant. I actually see a lot of words used improperly here, and the times you see it happen most often is during episodes of chest beating. Someone's trying to show how tough or smart they are and they only come across looking foolish.

The term back when I was younger was "bogus". Pretty much just a synonym fraudulent. Does anyone use bogus anymore?

People I know are too stupid to know what ignorant, or most other words, mean.

Ignorant is not the same thing as stupid. A smart person can be ignorant about a lot of things; in fact, we all are. I'm ignorant about Ethiopian culture, about the contents of the Andromeda Galaxy, about the financial success of silver mines in Chile, about the rules of advanced calculus, about the number of hairs on your left ass cheek, and about the evolution of the polio virus, just to name a few things. These are things that I just don't know a whole lot about. The knowledge is out there, but I have been ignoring it in my pursuit of other things in life, so I am ignorant with respect to such information. However, if I took the time to study any one of these things, I'm sure I could understand it, so I'm not exactly stupid.
In short, ignorance always refers to one's lack of current knowledge about a particular subject, while stupidity refers to one's lack of mental ability to understand a subject.

It depends on the context. If somebody calls me an ignorant person, they are implying that I don't have a lot of knowledge in general, and that would be an insult. But if they were merely saying that I was ignorant with respect to a certain body of information that I don't know, then of course that isn't an insult, it's just a fact. Ignorance is nothing to be ashamed of, as long as you're not ignorant of something that you definitely ought to know by now. Recognizing the extent of your own ignorance is the first step towards increasing your understanding of the world.

Acouwaila, you might still take offence to it, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you're ignorant of that subject or topic. Like One said, we're all ignorant about - well, relatively to the amount that could be known, we're all completely ignorant.

Hey, just realized something. How come can you call somebody ignorant in english if the word itself doesn't even have the second sense of not knowing much..Or does it?
Oh and ignorant isnt necessarily mean, it can be like...kids are ignorant about life and all kinds of stuff cause they haven't learned yet.

lol..Ignorant means (in french) somebody that doesnt know much, and also to not care about something. When you call somebody ignorant, you reefer (haha, reefer) to the first one. I was wondering if it meant the same in english, so that it would make sense. If it only means to not care about something, then theres something wrong xD

When i posted this thread i had in mind one example of ignorant being misused.
The other day someone called my dog. The dog didn't come. So then the person who called him said the dog was "ignorant" because he had "ignored" the command.
I said "No, he's arrogant. He wont come to you because he knows you're not his master."
I called him and he came.

you can also be willfully ignorent as well...
wikipedia states: Willful ignorance is a bad faith decision to avoid becoming informed about something so as to avoid having to make undesirable decisions that such information might prompt.
So if the information is presented yet such a person refuses to except the information or just chooses to disregard the information although they have already been informed then they are being willfully ignorant

Maybe your friends are just fraudulently ignorant, and are just waiting for you to slip up.
LOL. You always have the best responses. :)
People are awful with using words in contexts they don't belong in. Tenses, punctuation marks, and capitalization are the other three that most people are awful with.
I am a total grammar/spelling/sentence structure Nazi - it took me so long to be able to read through these boards (and others across the internet) without freaking out over every other post. (I have pretty severe OCD, and the urge to correct every issue in every post is still overwhelming, but now I can handle it better.
Are you're friends stupid? It's ok if they are. I have some stupid friends too
1 out of every 3 people are stupid so chances are one of these guys are dopes. What's so difficult about the word "ignorant?"
Ignorance is simply a lack of education and isn't constitutional to an individual's intellectual capacity. It's like a crackhead who can't see why people want him to get off drugs. It's because he's ignorant to REALITY.
Do I have some uncanny ability to kill every thread I post in or something?

Well, seeing as you only waited 20 minutes after your first post to post that, and you didn't post until almost an hour after me, that wouldn't make much sense.... :wtf:
If anything, I would have killed it because there was more time with no response after my post. But I mean, this thread hasn't had a response every five seconds anyway like some of them... :wtf: :wtf:
*Baffled by the logic...* :stoned: :stoned:
I had the same exact thought after reading Scarlet Sky's response. By your calculations, halfassedjediknight wears the crown for "killing" threads.

Yeah, I didn't go back through the whole thread and look to see where the biggest gap was, I just had to use one to convey my point.
I'm glad you don't think I'm a bitch for saying that, and that you were thinking the same thing! :)
