What If....MJ=Legal but Alcohol=Not

Being as drinking is a source of physical and sexual abuse, irrational violence, and vehicular manslaughter every single day, and marijuana is the source of munchies, I'm more for marijuana being legal.

Both should really be legal though, responsible adults should have the right to drink if they want, just as to smoke.

Well, there would be a lot of people getting diseases from badly made alcohol, since there would be no quality control. But I wouldn't care much, because I would rather smoke weed than drink. This is an interesting hypothetical question, though. Prices for Cannabis would go down a lot, and I bet there would be a similar way of selling it like in Holland, where there are coffeeshops, etc. I think it would be great, but the prohibition of alcohol would only cause more problems, just like it caused problems when it WAS ILLEGAL. I think it would be lame either way. Prohibition of anything does not work.

But yes, I would love for Cannabis to be legal!

I would smoke over drink any time, but they both should be legal. You can't even argue that bud is worse than alcohol, in terms of deaths, health, and the effects of being on both.

I am at a point in my life where I understand alcohol,,,I know it is nothing but poison... I have been taught in a hard way,,,but not as hard as some...
My father basically took his own life with alcohol and ruined many other lives in the process... I can not even think of an instance were pot was fatal... I do believe there is abuse of herb though,,,and it can wreak havoc on family's...When a person makes pot their sole purpose it can devastate their position in life... I am all for the legalization of pot and could care less if all the booze in the world was used to fuel our cars and heat our homes...

Getting a buzz from alcohol is pretty fun and relaxing, not getting really drunk though. Like a few beers, or a glass of or two of wine. Also weed is easy to get now and very much tolerated by most people whos opinions I respect. I'd rather grow weed than make alcohol. Anyways the world would deff be kinda wierd...just my :twocents:

Like Matt said above me, the world would be pretty weird. When you're high, for most people, they like to keep to themselves. Socializing is what makes the world go 'round, and fill that with legal cannabis and illegal alcohol, and shit would not be able to function properly.

Umm, the question is not which do you prefer. It is 'what are your thoughts on the hypothetical situation that alcohol is illegal and weed legal'. And I said most people become unsociable. It's definitely more of a narcotic substance.

personally, i don't believe that any substance that is not used to harm SOMEONE ELSE should be illegal. yes, that means i don't believe heroin, coccaine, meth, or any drug should be illegal. i don't believe it's the government's job to regulate what we do with our own bodies. now, at this juncture in world history i'm only campaigning for marijuana. why? well, first because it is the only narcotic that i would use myself, but more importantly: because it is by FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR the safest and most acceptable illegal drug. pot being illegal is really laughable, and we need a wake-up call if we actually think that it's REASONABLE for it to be outlawed. that's beyond propostourous

I would always smoke over drink.... but seriously I think cannabis should be legal compared to alcohol. I believe they should both be legal but maybe if alcohol was illegal there will be a lower amounts of death rates and I am pretty sure its less of a hassle to brew alcohol in a closet than to grow a plant in a closet or correct me if I am wrong. Plus If alchol became illegal it would be incrediably easy to hide unlike smoking is.... so yea I would definately love to have cannabis legal and alchol illegal but I would rather them both be legal....

Wow, heckuva mixed bag there. I tend as a rule to see alcohol as something that releases inhibitions.....not always a good thing (like the stranger you've got your arm around and singing with may be Ted Bundy....)
but not always a bad thing either. It defenitely depends on the person drinking it.....Skink gave an excellent example of out of control drinking. (and I like that he talked about addiction as a sperate thing as well :thumbsup:)

My first thought in posting this question was drinking and driving vs toking and driving but interestingly no one else brought that up so I'll simply say that I do agree with BD that alcohol seems to get people in a lot more trouble than weed does (present laws aside...just generally). Anyone else feel this way or am I full of BS (or both.....) :D

I will smoke and drive only because smoking raises my awareness...

I found that when I drank I would smoke 5 times more pot,,,I don't know why,,,I just did... I never got the benefit of the smoke as alcohol is effective at canceling it for me...

When I was younger I smoked for buzz factor,,,today I smoke to enhance my sense of taste and smell,,,I pretty much lost that in a accident... Pot also gives me a boost in drive and ambition... Marijuana is a wonderful drug...

Quite frankly Skink I find things to be pretty much the same way. Smoking makes my life better (imo) drinking makes it worse. I know this is not true for the majority of people but it certainly is for me.

Since becoming involved in this website I am amazed not only at how many people use mj for medical purposes....but also how much and how many people it has helped. I don't think the same can be said of alcohol in any setting.

As for the legality of each.....opinions?
