Ok well we harvested a couple of weeks back, got about 40oz wet on the stalks, had them in a nice dark place, temp was about 70, they were drying brilliantly, got up 1 morning, went to check on how it was doing, and it had all gone mouldy !! Now i'm guessing it was because of the humidity in the room where we was drying, ive checked it as we are due for another harvest in 2 weeks and dont want the same mistake again. the humidity has come up at 70%, i'm guessing this is too much, ideally what should it be, and apart from buying a dehumidifier, which we will if have too, what can we do to reduce it ?

more fresh/dry air flow.

air flow, and dont put the buds to close together

you should rotate them every day if mold is a problem

do not smoke moldy bud. i've read it gives you lung problems

Damn. Actually I need your humidity levels right now lol. My humidity in my room doesn't seem to get above 50% ever. I want it to be at at least 60 right now.

the veg room and the flower room, the humidity is 50/60 its not a prob its just the actual room we were drying in, we binned the whole lot is smelt awful, was so dissapointing. we basically put the buds in an empty chest of drwaers lying on newspaper, no airflow, didnt give it a thought, just thought if it was dry and dark it would be ok, how wrong we were.

Well unless you just have bud to experiment with to dry if you've never done it before I wouldn't have done that. Everyone has their own way of doing things but honestly I plan on doing what most people do...hanging them up in the grow room. Seems like the best way to me. Every other method of drying just never appealed to me. Hanging manicured plants seem to be the best way to me.

yeah but shouldnt they be in the dark ? is it not too warm in a grow room with all those lights ?

Well when the plants are harvesting I imagine everything is finished so the lights would probably be off until the next grow lol. I am a small scale grower. Wont ever be growing more than 6 plants at a time if that. And if you can't dry them in grow room just find a closet and hang 'em up in there.

the lights wont be out in our house lol, we have 24 in veg room, 26 in flower room. 11 of those should be ready in a couple of weeks

Oh...Well try and dry the plants in closet or something? Where is the grow? I was gonna suggest drying them in some place in the basement. If not hey, maybe you'll have to get a cardboard box and cut some holes in the sides and get some strings and tie it up in there and let little buds dry in the box in a dark place.

VERY carefully remove the affected part and some nearby foiliage. You have to be creful not to shake or knock the buds as this could cause mould spores to fly all over. Just clip it off into a bag and get it out of there.

Face the mould down when you do it and just snip it into a bag - keep checking back regularly - wash your hands and scissors afterwards!!

Good luck :)

i would suggest trying to snip around it as much as possible and quickly before it spreads then continue drying in ideal conditions

does the weed smell alot while drying it (i imagin it would of course) but if my parents came in my room while the buds were drying in my closet would they be able to smell a pugnant odor? how can i easily mask the smell if it does smell?

trust me i dont think growing smells as much as drying in your room :P

lol i grew outside then brought hte buids in to dry and got clocked straight away.

the best way is to make an excuse a few days before bringing the bud in, like a new room odoriser or somthing

yeah, you cant smoke moldy bud. if its small cut it out as suggested, if its quite alot (ive read) you can use the waterhash method to save some of your product.

I just dry right in front of my a/c unit. Air is nice and dry there. REady to jar up in only 3-4 days! Good to have the speed if you are in a place with lots of potential for mold.

Just for grins, check the temp and humidity levels in the air coming out of the A/C. I think you will be in for a surprise. Its not going to be as dry as you think, (assuming a central system) even with the ideal system superheat, subcooling, and air flow.

I like to hang along a inside cloths line all trimmed with a fan moving air around it takes about a week.
Good Luck

while smoking moldy bud will F**K you up, I should think cooking it down into cannabutter should be OK ... just my assumption here, but the heat should destroy the mold, and still make good butter ... anybody know for sure ?? .... :smokin:
