View Full Version : prison sentences...

am i the only one, that finds it retarded as fucking hell to sentence a man to multiple life sentences?
first lemme explain for a second... more often then not, when someone gets a life sentence, it's usually 'without the possibility of parole' so, no matter WHAT he does, (legally speaking of course) he will die in that prison.... so wtf is the point of the following life sentences? i could maybe understand if he had a life sentence and say, had to serve 25 for being elligible for parole, the mutliple life sentences could keep him where he belongs on a technicallity...
but really, wtf is the point when his sentence is 'without the possibility of parole'... even if he 'dies' and is brought back to life through medical treatment, he's STILL held in that prison... he goes from that prison to the grave and tha'ts the end of it.... cuz in reality, 'prison break' doesn't happen.. someone MAY escape (and considering how many in the us are improsned it's pretty fucking rare) but they're almost always caught/found dead...

Ya see, if some perverted s.o.b. decides to rape and murder multiple kids or women the bleeding hearts don't think that he should die for it. Instead, to ease their conscience for screwing over the families of the deceased, they say multiple life........like that's really, REALLY bad or something.

i'm pretty sure but not 100% that life in prison is not actually ur whole life in prison. it is a number... i think 99 years is a life sentence. so theoretically speaking, with great medical advances of course, someone could get life in prison and still be freed after that 99 years if they lived that long. think about how much we have come from 50 years ago. think about how long people will live in another 50 years. no dought life expectancy will increase over the next 50, 75, or 100 years. its just a matter of how much. so i guess giving a multiple life sentence is just a way of reassuring that this guy will not be freed and will get punished to the full extent of the law. ya get me?

its cuz people's sentences can get knocked down a couple years. Saying ridiculous sentence like 150 yrs prevents them from that possibility.

it is retarded, but our justice system isnt the most logical in the world.

actually life means 25 years unless its w/out parole like mentioned above
Gatekeeper777
04-08-2007, 02:04 PM
first the sentence must be Life without the possibility of parol in order for him to rot away in jail forever, and there are only a few crimes in which that can be enforced, like murder.
now...
Getting sentenced to life means 25 years, (why life is 25 years i donno)
SO A TRIPPLE LIFE SENTANCE IS 25 YEARS X 3 = 75 YEARS.
but the parolee has to be cleared for parole on all 3 sentences.
plus if the criminal gets one life sentence or two life sentences overturned he still has to serve 25 for the third.
parole is rare for a person sentences to life,
thats how some judges sentence people to life plus 5 years.
that dont mean the prison keeps his bones for 5 years after he dies.
that just means he got 25 years minimum plus 5 to the rest of his life maximum.

You do not need to understand it, you only need to accept it.

A "life" sentence here means 25 years. It is life though, literally. They will never find a career when they get out, their record and rep. will forever be ruined, and 25 years is a long time. Imagine if you went when you were 20, and you got out at 45. That, along with a forever tainted record, is literally having everything in your life, taken away from you.
But I see what you're saying. Giving someone 125 years seems so silly.
Another thing is keeping them alive all that time too. Us, the taxpayers, are paying to have them stay alive by having a roof over their head, food daily, cable TV, at no expense to them. It's pointless keeping someone alive for that long, just for them to serve no purpose to society, and have them die in the end, giving nothing back.
Spend $100 on a 9mm, get a bullet, done.

In Canada it is different I think. You hear people getting convicted of vicious crimes and they get "life in prison" and are out in 7-12 years :wtf:
Are people in support of the death penalty?

Yeah man. The court system is total BS here. Our judges are just too nice. For example: Back home about 3 years ago now, a 16 year old kid got stabbed to death by a fellow student over a dispute of $60 that one owed. Things got heated and the kid got fatally stabbed. Very sad. This 16 year old kid goes to court, and all he gets is 8 months in juvi., and 2 years probation. Over $60.
Another example. In Edmonton this middle aged man got into a dispute with 3kids under the ages of 18 on a bus. This man ends up getting beat to death and the kids in the end, are released on bail. The judge said, "they are minors, it was an isolated incident, and they will not liekly offend again."
People are just too nice here. I support the death penalty 100%. It is pointless to keep killers and perverts who are in their till they die, to keep them alive on our dime. Kill them. Blow their heads off, I don't give a shit, but why keep them alive when they serve no useful purpose to us?
I say if we are keeping them alive, put them to work and give them some labour outside of the prison.

Just wanted to state my opinion. I support the death penalty for perverts like rapist and molestors, and unjust murders. But I am afraid that with our fucked up justice system it will be abused and you will see people who were defending themselfs or property getting the sentence. Such as the homeowner that got sued for a criminal hurting themself in the proccess of robbing them. I could see someone shooting a bugarlar and being sentenced. And an even worse case I could see a dealer getting it. Hey for all we know Marc Emery could.

I think prison sentences in general are way too stringent. For 1st and 2nd degree murders and molesters, it's good enough to have life sentences with no possibility for parole. I don't believe in the death penalty, people have to suffer for their crimes. Dying is too easy.
But for crimes that doesn't do any harm to others, such as distributing cocaine, I think 10-25 is way too strict.

Yea but think of what comes along with running yayo. Illegal guns, murder, extortion, racketeering, plus the countless millions in un-taxed income they incur as a result of distributing cocaine. It is not the most reputable business practice. It is a lot easier to convict someone for drugs, than murder and other things that go along with selling drugs.
Plus look at how destructive yayo can be, especially in crack form.

life in prison is worse than the death penalty anyways, it just costs more to keep them in jail for life, I assume.

Well alot of times that someone gets multiple life sentences is for diffrent crimes ex. multiple murders, shit like that.

People can be prosecuted for more than one thing at the same time... so if you kill 3 people, you get 3 life sentances... b/c you were tried for each of those people.
Lets say your found innocent for one of those people, then you only get two sentances.
All these things: multiple life sentances; 125 year sentances, are all part of the process and paperwork. The system isnt going to only look at your case and say... "ok we cant give him 3 life's... we'll rethink it and give him something more sensible".
Theres too many pending cases to do that for all of them.

^^^ that really doesn't answer my question...
i mean it'd save alot of money and what not to just say ok he's been convicted of plenty enough to stick him in jail, there's no use in retrying him continuously..
i mean we've all seen those people that have multiple life sentences and no ability of parole... so why not just say "he's gonna rot away til he's dead in prison" then waste more money to try them....

actually, beside costs i'm for keeping 'em imprisoned for life... and i'll tell you why. anyone who's ever seen the inside of a lock down facility for more than 4 hous, will tell you that place is pure hell.... if i had a choice between death or living in prison, i'd choose death.. honestly... i say kill the ones who couldn't care less, but fight hard to keep the really bad fuckers alive....
oh my opinions aren't based on 'pro life' BS... just that living in prison for life would be worse then getting the death penalty...
but there are alot who just don't care what happens to them.. and even more so, the money we tax payers pay..
so for those two parts alone... lower at about a speed of an inch an hour into a pit of gators or sharks...
or maybe instead of sharks, pirhanas.. but only put like 10 in there... so they're not eaten all that fast...
or even better.. as many leeches as can possibly fit in the tank... they'd die of blood loss.. but it wouldn't be fast or pretty.

yeah i was locked up for 3 years as a teen...LONG story but luckily I got cancer and it changed my life around. Now looking back at the people who I was with at JDC, their all knocked up, on welfare, on meth and heroin and just a cancer on society. We should have killed them early instead of giving chance over chance. Everyone deserves one or two chances, but 90 percent go and become trash. After the third time we should kill you. The prison idea of reforming prisoners instead of punishing them is such a load of shit.

When your on the inside, all you have is time.
You are dead to the outside world time ticks by, it is your enemy.
The walls that contain you become your world, you are a fish in a huge pond then one day your cast into a little bowl. Thats not living, thats just existing, and sometimes its survival. Just because your alive on the inside doesnt mean your living, your soul slowly dies and you wither away slowly. like a caged dog if your in long enough.
To get me by my 8 years I held conversations in my head anything really to help pass the time.
That night seem silly but loneiness is the biggest silent killer(even over your cell mate).
It is far more cruel to keep them alive and treat them like animals then to give them a quick death.
I learned from experiance.
