I may need to move to one of these states in the very near future... I am looking for a suburb close to a city with a respectable crime rate... I plan to maybe get a studio or apt in the city while I search for a small house in a suburb... I may not have a license to drive,,,but my goal is to have one... I would also like to grow a little so it would help if the laws were lax or not vigorously prosecuted... another thing would be affordability as I will need time to establish and may take on any type of employment to live,,, so there must be jobs that I may have easy transportation or be able to walk to...
Wisconsin, Tennessee, Georgia, Massachusetts, and Michigan
Thank for any info and names of places so I may search house and rental info...

Western Massachusetts -the Pioneer Valley specifically-has a GREAT public transportation system and a killer cultural scene... look up Amherst, Northampton, Springfield, Greenfield, Holyoke. These cities and towns together, plus a bunch of other smaller ones, make up a really nice area with lots of colleges and all sorts of amenities. The laws are strict in this state ATM but our new governor is pro-decriminalization. And anyway you can grow outdoors around here like a CHAMP. lol. Anyway email me if you want more specific info. I grew up in the Valley and think it's the cat's ass.
As for the others, I was actually considering a move to MAdison WI myself... pretty town, nice atmosphere, good job prospects for a nerd like me. But that's not happening now, I intend to move to Alaska in a couple years instead.

Oh skinkers, here's links to a couple housing databases:
UMass Amherst: Commuter Services and Housing Resource Center (http://www.cshrc.org/housing.php?type=rental&action=search)
Classified Ads from The Recorder - Greenfield, Massachusetts (http://www.recorder.com/classifieds/subclass.cfm?main=Real%20Estate%20For%20Rent)
Prices on the bus routes are higher since the students compete.

In Wisconsin, Madison is your only real viable choice. The rest of the state is VERY redneck on growing, etc.......
Good luck!
Have a good one!

I live in Michigan right outside Detroit in a suburb. Michigan is a good place to live. But you honestly will need a job BEFORE movin to Michigan if you plan too. We have I think the highest unemployment rate in the country. But its mostly Detroit. In honesty Detroit sucks, besides the sports and suburbs. There are also many cool places in Detroit to go, but they just closed down 34 schools, everyones movin out. And im not tryin to be racist but the black people have no idea what they are doing there. And you never hear anything about the mayors. Besides spendin the cities money on their personal belongings.
Michigan is relativly cheap if you got a good job. The suburbs are awsome. Another suggestion would not be Detroit but mayby Ann Arbor. Better crime rate, allright transport, and its the only lax place in Michigan about weed. Its like a 50$ fine, and thats really it. But I do not know about Growing. But Ann Arbor still has its bad spots. But not like Detroit.
Overall Michigan aint a bad choice IMO. The weather sucks in the winter. Hell its still 25 degrees right now in april. But the summers can still get hot. And you got the great lakes to vacation too, go snowboardin/skiiin in the winter. I dunno im stoned and almost forgot what I was talkin about. Any more info ill b e sure to help.

I will do some searching into Ann Arbor I am so used to not locking my doors... when I looked at Mich I looked up the demographics,,, I see a way higher crime rate than the national average,,,especially Detroit and Flint areas...

Detroit and Flint were in top 5 most dangerous cities a year or so ago along with St. Louis, Compton, and one other.

I havent heard much about Flint, but yea Detroit is a hell hole. But if you get used to the area you know where to go and where to stay out. And just learn to stay out at night the whole time lol. Go with Ann Arbor its a cool place. Easy on the pot as said. And Hash Bash there is NUTS!

Yes, Michigan is the worst state in the nation economically, and the weather sucks. It's been snowing all of spring break.

there's a reason why he chose those 5 states.... his hope is that if his liscense is revoked he'll still be able to get one, in one of those five states since they aren't tapped into a national registry...
i.e. if he moved to one of the other 44 (yes i know tha'ts 49, but he's moving out of the 50th state :p) after his liscense is revoked he won't be able to get one, cuz they all tie into a national registry...

Ohio, we have some of the best drug laws in the country. It's a ticket if you get caught with less than 99 grams. Just make sure you don't have a pipe, paraphenalia is a little more of a hassle. My buddy got caught with 1.5 ounces all weighed out in seperate bags and got a $64 ticket.
Columbus is one of the fastest growing cities in the country, great job opportunities, good people for the most part, pretty clean, growing like a motherfucker. Winter sucks but summer is awesome.

Mass is a great place to live, but it is pretty expensive. However, I think the job market is pretty good, especially in the city. There are some nice apartments for pretty cheap for students and everyone else. If you want urban, check out Allston/Brighton. They're in the city of Boston, are fairly safe, and chill about smoking (mostly young people there). Allston is more urban, brighton is more 2-family houses.
As for Surburbs, Metro West (of Boston) is really expensive ie Newton, Wellesley, Wayland, Weston, Brookline, ect. However if you go across the river to Arlington or north (but not into the dangerous towns), there are some good/cheap places to live with good schools and public transit.
edit: Boston is great IMO, but some of these other places sound great, too! Good luck and keep us updated!

Check out Columbia, MO. It's a pretty cool town. Small, pop 100,000. College town. Clean. Posession of up to 35 grams of cannabis is not an arrestable offense. You'd probably be cool growing there. They don't really care about cannabis. When the new law was enacted, only like 5 of the first 100 people given citations were even prosecuted.

I live in Minnesota, that being said I've spent a great deal of time in Wisconsin and I think the entire northern midwest is a beautiful area to live in, too bad Canada isn't closer! Cheaper, better green :) The nature and things you can do all season such as going out on the lake soild or liquid, the vast country sides around most cities are amazing.
Madison is a cool little town, but it is as long as it is wide, I've never stayed anywhere outside of girlfriends dorms. Milwaukee is supposed to be pretty chill to and it isn't too far away from Chicago in retrospect either... But you're already leaning towards MA so...
