At a press conference following the meeting between Pelosi and Assad in Damascus, Pelosi indicated that she had delivered a message that Israel was ready to engage in peace talks.

"We were very pleased with the reassurances we received from the president [Assad] that he was ready to resume the peace process. He was ready to engage in negotiations for peace with Israel," Pelosi said.

Olmert emphasized that although Israel is interested in peace with Syria, "that country continues to be part of the axis of evil and a force that encourages terror in the entire Middle East," the clarification statement said.

"In order to conduct serious and genuine peace negotiations, Syria must cease its support of terror, cease its sponsoring of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad organizations, refrain from providing weapons to Hizballah and bringing about the destabilizing of Lebanon, cease its support of terror in Iraq, and relinquish the strategic ties it is building with the extremist regime in Iran," it said.

Whether or not Syria implements these measures will determine if Syria is sincere about making genuine peace with Israel, Olmert said.

She might have miss interpreted his exact comments, but atleast no one died searching for WMDs...

"BANG, BANG!! The dems shoot themselves in the foot again. DAMN! Now the Middle East knows what the U.S. already knew.......this woman is a two faced bitch!"

They give her alot more credibility then anyone in the Bush administration. Atleast someone is willing to listen and not demand anything as a pretext. If you caught your kid using and selling crystal meth would you ignore them until they are clean or offer them help?

The last line in that comment sounds like someone has issues with women.. Jemand erhalten geschlecht zu hause nicht?

And why is the Bush administration all hush hush about this? (http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/politics/20070404-1605-republicans-syria.html)..

"The White House, however, stayed relatively quiet about a similar trip just a few days earlier by Wolf and GOP Reps. Robert Aderholt of Alabama and Joseph Pitts of Pennsylvania.

Returning on Wednesday, the lawmakers said they made clear to Assad that they support Bush and were not representing the administration. But they said they felt it was important to keep open lines of communication."

Should have I expected anything different? I find it ironic on how Bush is dragged through the coals in here but if you do the same to the left it's stated that you "have issues"..."hate is a lonely thing"........I'll be looking for a change of attitude and posts regarding the right in the future since we don't hate OR have "issues". LMAO!!!

P4B~~~~~I can't find anything funny about Bushco. What they have done to the world and to our country is appaling. I'm not going into a rant here but to be laughing your ass off about what Bush and the Re-pubes are doing is fairly irrational. I thought your "side" believed in freedom. Unless you're totally out of touch, you must admit they (Bushco) have done more to impinge our freedoms than any that have come before, almost totally isolated us from any allies world wide, driven us into certain bankruptcy. and killed more people than anyone since Hitler. I don't find that very amusing.

Heres a kiss 4 u P4B

As most of her critics surely know, there is nothing outrageous or even unusual about a meeting between a foreign head of state and a member of Congress. Indeed, she was preceded on the road to Damascus by Rep. Frank Wolf, a prominent Virginia Republican who led a GOP delegation to meet with Assad, and she was soon followed by Rep. Darrell Issa, a California Republican whose remarks after seeing the Syrian leader were sharply critical of the Bush White House.

almost totally isolated us from any allies world wide,

Same said about Reagan and I really don't give a rats ass what the French think about us...not to mention others.

driven us into certain bankruptcy.

Congress holds the pocket books..........the debt esculation was there way before Bush. Once again, LINE ITEM VETO is needed!

You sure have a way of arguing without saying anything of value. Saying Bush has killed more people than anyone since Hitler does not compare him to Hitler, that is just stating a fact. I could have said Stalin, or Mussolini. both would have applied. The fact is Bush is responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths. I realize you right wing zealots don't believe any body counts but the Bush counts, But you are in fact wrong. Independent studies by more than one accounting have placed the death toll in Iraq between 250,000 and a million, all fought for Ego (Bushs' dads assasination attempt) and corporate greed.

Here,s an independant study done on the Iraq death count. Unlike mathematics, statistics is not an exact science. Even more, it is the science of error. "All surveys have potential for error and bias," admits the study report. In their final comments, the research authors address many possible biases one by one, acknowledging possible resulting fluctuations in the findings. That is why each total is reported within a margin called the "confidence interval". 601,027 excess violent deaths is called the "best guess" or the "best estimate" because it is the closest to the actual number of deaths ranging from 426,369 and 793,663. The same reasoning applies to 654,965, the estimated total number of Iraqis (within a range from about 400,000 to 950,000) who would not have died from any cause if the invasion had not occurred in March 2003.

So lets just kill them all, children, women, afterall the women can breed and the children will grow up. The mindset of people like you never ceases to amaze me. It must be nice to be able to kill without conscience. When the day of judgerment comes, your kind will taste the sword of justice. "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall inherit the earth". I wonder what lies in store for all you wanton killers, If you believe in God, then you must surely believe in Hell, I'm sure there's still room for you. Mellow out for "Christs" sake, there is plenty of killing going on without us adding to it. I thought we held the high moral ground, but, I was wrong, so wrong.

Look!!!! Check this out!!!!!!

America is supposed to be in non contact with Syria and Iran, but when those 15 Brits got kidnapped, England came to us asking for some help. We decided the best way to influence Iran in this matter was to go through Syria, so Bush sent Pelosi on a secret mission to help free those prisoners, we made a clandestine deal behind the scenes, all the while America can claim denial and keep face w/ our No Contact policy w/ those countries, Bush publicly condemns Pelosi but is secretly congradulating her on the completion of the mission, as a service to our allies, Every one saves face (except the brits but they at least get back their personell). Remember that story about Syria claiming credit for release of the hostages, it was out for like 3 hours then completly pulled. Think about dudes!

Nice story, but I doubt if bush is that smart. Pelosi might have talked some sense into the syrian leader and asked him to influence Iran, but Bush is just spoiling for a fight with Iran and would do nothing to ease tensions.

so you believe that citizens should be allowed armed forces type weapons?

being a professor, i'm sure you read the federalist papers and knew that when the framers put in the 2nd addmendment, that a standing army is what they feared most.

Okay heres what i dont understand. It is the president's job to deal with foreign policy right, and that would include talking to other foreign leaders. Now my question is why the fuck is the speaker of the house going out and trying to do the president's job and then try to play it off as if she did nothing wrong?

Maybe because the asshole isn't doing his job and talking to other countries, ever wonder about that. We can't stick our heads in the sand and pretend they ("The Enemy") don't exist. She is doing what he should have been doing before he invaded Iraq, finding out what the countries in the area have to say. We (The USA) can no longer be or pretend to be the worlds policemen. Basically, We can't afford it, either monetarily or with our blood.

U.S. pulls ambassador from Syria

WASHINGTON (AP) ?? The United States pulled its ambassador from Syria yesterday, expressing ??profound outrage? over the assassination of a Lebanese leader who had protested Syrian influence in his country.
U.S. pulls ambassador from Syria - News (http://media.www.michigandaily.com/media/storage/paper851/news/2005/02/16/News/U.s-Pulls.Ambassador.From.Syria-1428844.shtml)

THIS is the reason why we have no real relations with Syria at the present time.......Pelosi was way out of line going there spreading misinformation in regards to Israel not to mention undermining U.S. foreign policy in that region.

I'll state it right out that the republicans that went to Syria were out of line.....is it so hard for the left in here to say the same about their own? "We should talk, open dialog"..........sure, with the bi-partisan attitude thats displayed in here I can see that's a one sided issue.

Well, I don't think the Republicans were anymore out of line than Nancy. What I think is that since the stubborn Busco regime has refused to re-instate the ambassador for the last two years, it is time to open dialog. To be Honest, I have absolutely no confidence in the Bush foriegn policy whatsoever. Everything they touch turns to poop. They ramble from one fiasco to the next. It's a wonder we have any allies left on the planet.
