I was looking into having spring water delivered in 5 gal containers, like the type that goes upside down on a cooler, and also I guess you can take those same containers and go to your local grocery store to refill.

I was looking on ebay at reverse osmosis water purification systems that run about $80-$160 for good ones. Is using distilled water the intermediate step between tap and RO? Also, how much do you pay and where do you go to get you're distilled water? We have a 24 gal reservoir so the 5gal deliveries is probably out. Thanks

R.O. is great if your raw water is decent. If not, buy the R.O. membranes by the skid.

You dont get distilled water in those machines. Most times its pseudo R.O. water (2 pass R.O.). Many only run water thru carbon filter to take chlorine out. The chlorine gives municipal water that shitty taste. Municipal water is usually pretty decent, it has to be. It can be harder than the hubs of hell, depending on where you live.

D.I. water will eat copper pipes, literally and in a very short period of time. I dont know what it would do to plants. If you ever get a spot free rinse at a car wash, they use D.I. water. It has zero minerals left in it = no spots.

Dont forget, you dont get gallon for gallon. To get one gallon of R.O. water it might take 5 gallons of your tap water. The rejection rate is determined by the quality of the water before you run thru R.O.

And thats your water lesson for day....

Just go on ebay, and buy a reverse osmosis unit for 80-90 bucks, and hook it up. I have used mine for 2 years without changing one filter. I checked water the other day and after process with 5% run-off. I get .002 ppm. Pretty clean & a great place to start.

Make sure to buy some calmag+ to replenish the essential nutrients removed by process.

ph problems will be minimal...ph remains stable, because you add compatible water soluble nutrients/additives that more often than not contains ph buffers. Goodluck.

You will save a ton of money compared to buying distilled.

Hey guys, I have thought long and hard with my partner and we have decided to scrap our ebb and flow system. It was custom built, only used twice and did the job fairly well, but we want to go for yield this time around and also potency. We also want to maximize our space and so we have decided to go with 5gal bucket systems (3) with the possibility of going to 4 in the future and a 600W HPS light upgrade from out 400W HPS also. This will enable us to have way smaller reservoirs and thus enables us to spend about $10 every 2 weeks on distilled water at safeway.

Great change but listen to these guys about water. If you don't like ebay go to lowes and get a RO system from them, 150 something but worth every dime. I got one and still use it for drinking for now. Water has a lot of crap in it. Also test your distilled. Some times it has chlorine in it for long shelf life.

latewood, PA POW and peace bro. just waiting my time out.
Listen to latewood and look at some of his setups, you can't go wrong or less expensive.

Keep in mind w/ dwc / 5 gal. buckets while in flower my plants use about 1.5 gal. a day . Your still gonna be runnig for water all the time . R/O is the way to go .
Peace

Ya, I have been looking on ebay as well and I guess the best RO systems also incorporate a DI system where you change the resin after a certain amount of time. A lot of the better systems give you the choice of connection fittings that you would need also - which is nice. I think for $100-$150 RO is the way to go
