I have some seedlings growing pretty well out in this forest behind my house. There's been a spot of very unusual weather lately. Its been warm all day and all night but lately a cold front has come through and its not going to be warming up until next week. It only gets up into the 50's during the day maybe the 60's. At night though tomorrow and the next night its a possibility of dropping down into freezing or below. What should I do to protect my seedlings? Should I cover them in ziplocs or something to shelter them from frost? I need any advice that I can get soon because I am on a deadline any advice is greatly appreciated.

ziploc tents are not a bad idea.
Or you could make cones out of stiff, clear plastic if you can find any, and stack leaf mulch up the sides to protect them even more.
Or take 2L soda bottles, cut the bottoms off, take the caps off, and use those.. you can put a stake in the ground near the seedling and slide the mouth of the soda bottle over it to keep the 'greenhouse' from blowing away. It has been nasty here too; we got a noreaster last night and it has been windier than fuckballs.

i think im just going to get ziplocs and put them over the seedlings then close it up at the ends as much as possible if it doesnt make the seedling fall over
if so then ill just let it be and cover the ends up with soil
thanks for the advice though
the ziploc seems like a good idea because of the transparency so I don't have to juggle taking it on and off in the morning hours and night hours

don't suffocate them... they still need lots of fresh air... IMO a soda bottle is much better.

Grab a bucket, grab gardening gloves, transplant. Walk with bucket in hand to the inside of a warm area. Let them chill. Take them out next morning and let them baske in the glory of the sun!

It helps too to give them a little water before leaving them for the night. The water will evaportate throughout the night and supply a little heat to low-lying leaves. Straw is also good insulation and easy to work in and out of the garden area.
