This is the MH bulb that it came with which is a little burnt out and really doesn't put near as much light as it should. The other kit we have is running a HPS bulb in it right now. Is it possible to have a ballast thats specifically for MH that wouldn't work with HPS?

I mean I understand that this is an older fixture but I'm getting down to the last weeks and I was hoping to through this on here. Only HID bulbs I can buy are from Menards here in my town, and so far I figured out it won't work with a S51 type but I went ahead and tried this morning anyways. My research really hasn't gone soo good so i have no idea what i need, that or if someone could show me an online store....

I guess i'm hoping maybe someone can piece it together for me, thanks for any help!

bghydro.com has a 800 number you could call. My understanding is a ballast made specifically for MH light does not have an ignitor to fire a HPS bulb. I dont take shit like that apart or try things in them that are not supposed to be used. So I dont know about ghetto'in something up that may become a fire hazard. Maybe you could get a conversion bulb and put in it, but again, I would call bg or wait for some more info from someone in the know on here.

Last thing you want to do is burn yer damn house down.

When I did plug it in when I would pull the power out from the wall it'd momentarily light up for a second. I was just reading about conversion bulbs, though that means I'm not gonna be able to implement this light in a timely manner :(

bulbs are ballast specific, your lucky you haven't hurt yourself. I use conversion bulbs, better than buying two ballasts.

Nah I'm not worried about things exploding its not like the bulb was going to get too much energy in a 400w fixture, at least in my head! But you guys have to understand this was a random thing i tried to go out and do because there isn't a shop within 100 miles that sells grow bulbs
