Well, I finally got busted.

OK, here goes the story:

Me and a few friends decided to go out to the local lake here to do some fishing and chillin'. It was a nice day, bright and sunny, and no one around for miles...or so we thought. So anyways, we spend a good 3 - 4 hours fishing (and, smoking) and catch nothing. Mind you, this wasn't a public park or anything...just a secluded spot we had found on the lake that we thought was nice. Turns out, the game warden had been watching us. So, on our way home, he pulls us over. My friend who was driving was asked to step out of the car along with me. He asked us first if we had a fishing license. I gladly pulled mine out and show it to him. My friend, who didn't have one, was handcuffed and taken to the side and searched thoroughly by the cop. He said he had seen us smoking and had been watching us for a while, and that he had probable cause that it was marijuana due to the smell (i love weed as much as the next stoner, but damn, there's no hiding its unique scent). So, the car was searched along with all of us. My friend had about a gram in his pocket, and I had about half a gram in mine. He confiscated the weed and wrote us both a fine for possession, and my friend got an extra fine for fishing with no license.

Fucking pricks.

The charges were $565 for simple possession (first offense) and my friend had an extra $155 added for being without a license.

On top of that, he set the court date for only 2 weeks later and expects us to have the cash ready by the date.

FUCKING BULL. Who can actually work a minimum wage job AND go to school full-time and make that kind of money in that time? Definitely not me. I think he knew that very well, too.

Well, one way or another, I'm going to pay the fine, even if I have to start working overtime. That bastard isn't going to ruin me like that. I already have family and friends who said they would watch my back if I didn't make the money in time. Thank God for friends like mine. (One has already graciously lent me $100 :) )

Oh, and my parents now know I smoke weed, and they were perfectly okay with it...and to think I could have just sat home and smoked a bowl in private the whole time instead. :(

Looks like I'm just going to move to Amsterdam to avoid this pointless and outrageous drug war. Who's with me? :stoned:

Game warden is essentially a cop with nothing better to do... you can ask the judge for time payments,,,say you are unemployed and expect to get a job next month... give him a low number you can come up with monthly,,,then he will bring it up a bit,,,start really low...

Actually you only have to have the ticket payed by then and then not have to go to court or else you go to court and then you'll probally get a reduction in fine and then they set a date that thats due ( usually 1-2 months )

when i got busted for possession my fines were in payments... it was just around 1,000, but they broke it up into 4 monthly payments.. maybe you can get the same thing..

I was told that here in the good ol' perfect state of South Carolina [/end sarcasm] that even with paying the fine, I could serve jail time (15 - 30 days), although it's not likely. However, if they DO decide to randomly pick me for jail time, I can request Pre-Trial Intervention. Apparently it's my ticket to get out of jail free on community service/rehab instead (yeah, like rehab is going to change my opinions on marijuana... not likely :) ). Either way, I'm doing what I can to fight this thing.

I wonder if after I've paid the fine and everything if I should say politely to him "Next time, could you write the word 'cannabis' instead of 'marijuana' on my ticket? It sounds a little racial." (lol, just a stoned thought. I wouldn't really do that.)

Anyways, just wish me luck everyone.

yeah, for less than .5, also had my liscense suspended for 6 months (didn't even have it and still don't, nearly 4 years ago now) have to pay 100 reinstatment fee for that, then gotta take a 4 week drug program just to be able to get my liscense, then i have to pay 'high risk insurance' ontop of my normal insurance. 1,000 in fines and court costs nearly brought it up to 1,500... another 500 for my attorney (i really shoulda known i was gonna get fucked with such a cheap ass lawyer... but i didn't have much choice i'm poor) AND i spent the night in jail that night... (oh yeah another 1,000 for bail.)

the only time I got caught with any herb on me was in Des Moines IA I served 26 days in jail before I got to goto court and then they gave me time served. Count your blessings yo... all they had on me too was just a couple of blunts and then when I got to court they didnt have those just two roaches (Fucking pigs)

Smoking in public is risky but having the raw product on you is even more risky..

Game wardens scare me more than cops.
They CAN look in your cooler if you have fishing gear, to enforce size limits. It's why I'm afraid of taking fishing equipment along as a disguise when planting outdoor crops. And I ALWAYS buy a license... f'real, where do you think the $$$ for management of the fish stocks comes from? (I used to work at a hatchery and take that shit kinda seriously)
They are usually a scary combination of good woodsmen with good educations and past military experience. REad: They will tap you on the shoulder before you even know they had been standing there, and you can't fool them, period.
Anyway good luck in court and please tell your buddy to buy a damned license next time! I honestly would not be surprised if the warden would have let you go and just confiscated your shit if you'd both been fishing legally.

actually i did try, but you see at the time only my bottom teeth were real, and my dentures weren't in good... so i couldn't chew it >.< and it was just big enough that trying to swallow it woulda made me choke (had nothing to drink or i woulda took my chances)

Wow, that would never happen around here a little more North on the East Coast as well. It's not like you were bothering anyone, the only reason a cop would arrest someone around here for something so miniscule like smoking weed. And even then, you'd have to really piss them off.

Possession is the key thing to avoid here in Jersey... It is a + that pot will show on a test for 35 days so they really cant prove when you smoked it...

The game wardens and Fish & Game employees that I know are also very passionate about protecting a resource that is there for the public, but still costs a lot of money to manage so that everyone gets to benefit equally from it.
