It's probably Frankenstein-type super-strains that are causing this. Get, or grow, some old fasioned stuff, and your problem is over.

U have to have a good mindset before u smoke...don't smoke if ur anxious or paranoid already. Or if there's a possiblity that u will become paranoid (like if ur around ppl u don't trust). Some ppl just don't know when to not smoke.

Try drinking some alcohol, Mixing alcohol with cannabis can help reduce panic attacks by decreasing your heart rate. Also just dont smoke your cannabis as fast. So down. When you feel yourself getting to high just stop.

its different for everyone. it doesnt bother me either way. but i do know some people who swear by smoking after, and others who can only before. youll just have to find out how you respond to it

ive never really mixed the two because I don't like smoking at parties since everyone is so goddamn loud and obnoxius and usually when I smoke I'm with a few people or alone but I've never drank alone.

I never get panic attacks when high. To the contrary, I am much more relaxed and easier to get along with. I know my rights, and as long as they are not violated(not a promise in this country), then I have nothing to worry about.

I get attacks on sativa's and sober. Indicas can stop them and relieve anxiety.
Focusing on your breathing would seem like the best remedy. Is your panic induced by your thoughts? I'm not precise on the matter.

Used to get them all the time. Then I stopped popping caffeine pills at daytime.
The only stimulant I ever use is cocoa, which contains no caffeine, only theobromine. Much easier on the system.

i used to get them, thinking my teeth were going to fall out, then i realized that it was just the feeling of blood moving through my face, if you try and pay attention to it when youre sober you can feel it. so now i think of getting stoned as making me a superhero or some shit.

if you drink a couple beers and go easy on the weed, you should be fine. I made the mistake of blazin up a whole blunt to myself after not smoking for over a year:( .......I should of gone easier on the weed shit had my heart racing fast as fuck started getting paranoid paniking etc.......but i went over board and thought i could handle it....

I've done a lot of research on panic attacks as well as been on medications for it (xanex and anti-anxiety meds)..and I no longer have them at all..it's all breathing...the one thing they've found in common with all people that experience panic attacks is their improper breathing.....your inhale should push out your stomach area and your exhale should then retract your diaphragm up and inward....lots of people breathe with their chest or do reverse breathing which sucks the stomach inward on inhale and outward on exhale...
other than that it seems like people who get panic attacks are people who worry about having a few of the same problems they always think they're going to have..so my best advice is do the research on whatever problem that is so you can prove to yourself you don't have it..
Work on breathing #1..I haven't even had the inclination to have a panic attack since I fixed my breathing..

i just had my one and hopefully only anxiety attack not to long ago and let me tell you something it was one of the craziest things that ever happened to me. first my mouth started to feel numb and tingly, then my arms. before i know it, im on the ground trying to breath normally and not pass out. it felt like i had a constant head rush, my arms didn't return to normal for a half hour after it subsided. must of been all the hyperventilating

So panic attacks are a common trait?
Up in Reno when I smoked I got about 4 panic attacks over the course of 2 months. I'd usually be in someplace public. My first time I was on the bus home after getting high with my friend. I'm a secluded and somewhat paranoid person in social situations, and the weed seem to make it worse. Next thing I know i was freaking out, and started panicking because I was panicking. Then the bus started spinning and I started passing out. Next thing I know some passengers were shaking me asking me if I was alright. They thought i was having a seizure. After that first time, I started getting them simply because i was worried about getting them, it was one of the reasons I quit weed when I moved out of the state.
Sort of related regarding symptoms. Is it common to feel more "itchy" in random places on your body while high? Like today I find myself being kinda "tingly/itchy" as I'm coming down from my earlier session.

that sucks buy when I get anxious like that I don't get panic attacks but I can calm myself down easily just telling me self to chill the fuck out but when you smoke weed it's like you have to fight against the weed and it's like you just pretty much have to wait it out because you have a substance in you that's causing it, so telling yourself to calm down won't work.

Last night i had my first panic attack, i was just put on some meds for anxiety and well last night i took a huge bong ripp just one, and for about an hour after i couldnt feel anything from my head to my toes, but ironically i could feel..? like i couldn't get the understanding what the hell happened to me, i drank some water and i couldnt feel it's wetness just some lump going down my throat, i really freaked the fuck out, i was at my best friends house, in a great place i love to be, i just couldnt help it. i exhaled the bong ripp and coughed my ass off for like 2 mins, and from there on out i was freaking in my head about any and everything for about an hour. It my friend a while to realize there was something wrong with me, because to them i was just sitting there, but to me, i was tunnel vision freak out! i never want that feeling again...

I started getting a panic attack the first time I smoked. It was like little anxiety attacks hitting me. Then one of my favorite Grateful Dead songs came on and I felt better.
Is it true that when you feel a panic attack coming on while high, you should just take another hit? A friend told me this, but I've never heard it anywhere else.

What everyone needs to understand about anxiety and panic attacks is that you can STOP them as soon as you notice them coming on. Don't lead yourself to believe that you're having a panic attack and it is inevitable because of the marijuana. All marijuana will do is make you feel a little differently, something as subtle as a tingle in your head can cause an anxious prone person to fear of a brain tumor, which then can spark an attack. I highly suggest that the first thing you do (you being people prone to anxiety/panic attacks) is erase the notion from your mind that it's definite once it starts in. Secondly practice breathing properly when you notice it happening. Thirdly and quickly after you control your breathing--deny the attack mentally and move on with whatever you were doing. I don't recommend purposely thinking about something else in attempt to forget about the attack, because it won't work. You'll then just end up in a situation where you're putting far too much energy into something that doesn't deserve the time of day, making it a bigger deal, and more likely to take control of you. You can stay in control though, by just denying the attack..it sounds simple but trust me it works. After you take a few controlled and propper breathes simply continue doing whatever you were doing, without letting yourself believe anything is really wrong with you..and before you know it you'll be back doing what you were doing, panic free and slightly better at controlling your attacks..and eventually after you've handled it well enough, you won't get anymore attacks because you won't freak yourself out about little harmless feelings...
Hopefully this helps someone..

I've gotten the feeling like I'm gonna have a heart attack but I dunno if it was a panic attack? I didn't like it though and I also noticed it was just that specific strain of bud I had at the time.
Headin2KONA: very nice information! Thanks a lot. I know that will help a lot of people 'cause it's easy to understand and makes sense (and even so the placebo effect would be enough to cure the attacks ;)).
The first time I smoked I had a massive panic attack. Probably not quite as bad as that cop who recently called 911 when he was freaking out from the effects of ganja brownies, but close. But after that, I've never really had a full-fledged panic attack. Sometimes for a few seconds I'll freak out, but then calm myself down. It takes some experience to control your high like that, unfortunately for some.

They really suck don't they? I've ever only gotten them from weed.
I have been a med mmj user for quite awhile now due to severe arthritis. My choice to use med mmj rather than perscription drugs has quite literally been a life saver for me. I could partake of any strain of mmj without any ill effects, until recently. Within the last few months I have gotten ahold of some VERY potent indica, which by the way is the best for me as far as pain control, and both times I smoked it, it put me into a very severe panic attack. I know the dealer very well, and both times i smoked with other people, and I was the only one affected in this manner. So it is not a matter of the weed being laced with any thing. The second panic attack was so severe, I thought it was a heart attack. I was as close to dialing 911 as I ever had been. Now I know there are those of you who would say " its the stress in your life". My life has very little stress in it. Other than my disability, my life is pretty much stress free. I am 49 years old, and have been using mmj for over 20 yrs now. I have learned to deal with my disability in such a way as to create very little stress. I can smoke schwag with no ill effects, so why now, after all this time, is the indica having this effect on me? I dont get it. Is there something I can do to remedy this? Does anyone have any suggestions? Like I said, indica is the best for me, and I am totally at a loss as to what i can do. Someone PLEASE help me. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!!!!:(

I hate having panic attacks.
I used to get them in school a lot, which sucked. I was always either just leaving out a side door and calling myself out later or having my mom come get me.
Weed seemed to help them, though. I would just get home and smoke and then I'd be alright.

was just wondering ... you say that you can smoke schwag and be ok. try smoking the schwag some - enough to get nice and fuzzy. then take just a hit or two of the indica. the idea being to ease into it instead of just of whammo.

I have a hunch that the batch is a hybrid STRAIN of indica and sativa. Indica is relaxing, not prone to cause panic. I wish I had some myself - that's about the only thing I'm interested in, but it's next to impossible to find in my area.

It was very hard to find in this area, too. That was what we really could have used a lot more for my sister when she was sick. The sativa ones gave her some anxiety, and she had enough of that with terminal cancer anyway.

For me, it's quite the contrary. Sativa's give me that crazy head rush with a flying sense. Indica's, rarely but sometimes, give me panic attacks.
I had an attack last night but I think I can overcome that easily with just some more practice :rasta:

There is a meditation that is useful. It's good to practice this even when you are chilled as it gives you a lot more control over your internal states. When a negative out of control feeling starts... become aware of it as if you are a distant observer. You may be tempted to give meaning to the feelings... "I'm feeling this way because..." but that only makes you more caught up in the moment. When you are observing as if you are sitting comfortably watching the television without judgement then feelings and thoughts seem as if they are happening to someone else. They are distant. And eventually they will fade.
If you try it now you may like to imagine that you are a wise Zen master. Just observe. If you become aware that you are getting caught up in your thoughts just take a step back in your mind and notice that thought.
Chill:thumbsup:
