siberian husky is a pack dog and are very very unhappy alone and when left alone tend to do lots of damage and suffer from seperation syndrome.

Seriously get a mutt. Go to your local dog pound or humane society and get a cute little puppy that is a mix of breeds. Those ones are usually very friendly and live longer because they aren't inbred. Personally i have always had spephard mixes. My current dog is a German Shephard/Chow/who the hell knows and he is cute as hell and uber friendly.

Hey killerz!
I have a Siberian Husky and I've had him since he was 5 weeks old and he is almost 3 yrs old and is such a good/protective dog! They are veeeeery hyper and if you dont have them a buddy they will drive you batty! They wont obey you if they get loose outside your grasp because I swear they have wolf in them but reports say thats not true. Anyways if you dont have plenty of room outside for them to roam then dont get one, never keep a husky as an INDOOR dog....they need their space just like we do....anywho heres my baby boy and good luck!

Despite crazy evil rumors , maybe a bully breed ?
My pitt is the most loyal lil critter I've ever had , loves kids , and naturally protective . The lil white bully in my avatar is known as an "Irish Pride" pitt . known for it's awsome temperment w/ kids . Do a lil research they were known as "Nanny Dogs" .
Peace

no dog is born evil i believe its the owners and how they are raised.
our dogs are treated like our kids and they in return accept us as pack members and gatekeeper is alpha male.

any dog needs a master,,,you need to be firm but also praising and friendly when they listen... If you don't have plenty of time in the begining and then still lots of time to be with dogs then get a cat because dogs need more attention... good rule I would also say is to get a pair that will be buds,,,cats or dogs... when you just don't have the time they will entertain each other...

they can be protective, since i live out in the country and never have people come down my mile long driveway but if they do he lets us know so they can be good guard dogs but mine i believe is just a sissy dog. and yes NEVER EVER let that dog off his leash! he will sprint and you will never catch him, we finally had to get an electric fence for mine because he kept digging to get out the regular fence we put up and it pissed me off! they can get hit or someone will gladly pick up that beautiful dog so get an electric fence if you had too, or the electric collar that im still thinking about just so i can train him to quit running away and they will not listen to you! if they are in your grasp they listen to you but soon as they smell that freedom forget it they are gone.......and they shed like freakin crazy! bust out the vacuum and suck that shit up but do some googling on it and you will find out everything you want to know and never shave a husky, omgaw never! the figment that pic looks crazy, lol.....

I agree with crispi that bully breeds are the way to go. Google 'molossers'. It's the general type of dog that includes bullies and mastiffs.
In my experience they are a nice combination of protective but good with kids, and very calm in the house. I have never seen a bully with separation anxiety... they aren't dumb, but they aren't so intellectual that they will amuse themselves by eating your house when they get bored.
MY experience with them is:
-I own an Olde English Bulldogge/ Boxer cross (I do NOT recommend a boxer for a first time dog owner because they actually ARE super smart and can be destructive, but great and loyal dogs, and they have a silly habit of grooming themselves like cats). She came from the shelter when she was 3 years old and is just an amazing, calm, loyal dog who loves kids and puts herself in between me and strangers and just stands there like, yeah, i'm not gonna bite you but you aren't coming any closer! This is basically the same foundation cross as an Annapolis Valley Bulldog from Nova Scotia... HIGHLY recommended.
-My last tenant had an English mastiff and 3 American bulldogs. The bulldogs were really nice animals but it was the mastiff who I really loved. 200 pounds of lovable drool. Also very protective and VERY calm. He was one of those dogs who waits until you sit somewhere and then plops himself down at your feet for a nap
-My current tenants have an American Staffordshire Terrier. This isn't a pit bull but they are often confused. He's a really nice dog and very calm and obedient for a puppy.
One more thing about bullies is that they aren't typically barkers. They will bark once or twice to warn you that there is someone outside but don't get into barking matches with the neghborhood dogs, which is a major problem where I live... there's 2 black labs a couple houses down in one direction, and a couple schnauzers the other way, and I get so pissed listening to them bark all the fucking time.
Anyway there's some info for ya.
If I had to pick a perfect dog for a first time owner, it would be a bully from a shelter who is already about 2 years old or more.
Here's a super useful bully link... it's one of the best websites I have EVER seen anywhere, on any topic.
Bulldog breeds. The different types of bulldogs. (http://www.bulldoginformation.com/bulldog-breeds-types.html)
and here's a petfinder posting of a gorgeous example of a bully mutt. AWWWWW isn't he handsome? Petfinder has postings in Canada too.

Akitas are amazing animals but not for an inexperienced owner... of all dog breeds, they are one of the worst when it comes to going feral if they aren't constantly being socialized.
Remember an akita is a hunting dog, and not a flusher or pointer, it was bred to KILL its prey. I've known one that was good with kids, but personally would never trust one around children.
My friend had an akita from rescue who she was working wiht for 2 years and still having serious behavioural problems... it all ended when her akita killed AND ATE the neighbor's kick-me dog. She was ordered to have the animal destroyed or adopt it to another county.
Just a heads up.

Yeah, mine attacked a neighbors poodle as well.. Just out of instinct I guess, didn't have any other behavioral problems.

Had to end up giving it to the Rescue.

But yeah, Like I said... Amazing breed. I have a Shih Tzu now, and they're the cutest (I said it) little dogs in the world. The way they manipulate their paws/bodies is too funny.

ahahah nicee, yea i checked the shelters arround my areas today, they had a couple bully types, but they were arroud 4 years or so. i was kinda looking for somthign younger. i dont kno why, i guess since its my first dog i want it to be special and raise it from childhood. lol

i also saw some sibarians but the shelter person was telling me that they dont learn unless they want to . so house training them as a puppy, or teaching them fech (since they have so much energy) can be a problem .. but then again, she said she never owned one, adn is just giveing advice from what she has herd from others

I have a 2 year old female Siberian Husky, she is a playful, friendly dog that would not hurt anyone. If I have a burglar, they'll have to play with her to get in.lol She is hyper, and when outside will run and run and run. I live in the country so she has plenty of room. If you have yours in the house be prepared to play. She does not like being ignored. This is not my first dog by far and nort my last, but no more Huskies. She's a character. We have had a test of wills from day one and I do believe she is finally getting me trained them way she wants.[attachment=o129096]

I too have a boxer. Mine is a reddish brown very similar to the one posted. They are so adorable. It's actually the second boxer I've had. One thing I can say about them is, watch what you leave laying around. My first one walked right up to my plate of pizza sitting on the coffee table and snagged it right up for herself. Hah, you can't stay mad though. They also seem to love tearing up garbage and plants. One thing I love about them is they have are extremely smart and very sociable, and also very attentive (usually), their mood usually depends on yours. They can tell if you are sad or happy, when I've had my dog around when I've cried she nudges her head inbetween my arms and rests her big heavy head on my lap.

I would not recommend getting a boxer if you don't have a big backyard, they really need room to run and explore. They make excellent hikers, always interested to smell the next tree. Also extremely friendly, neither of mine have ever bitten anyone on purpose, although they are very energentic and playful, and have accidently scratched me with their paws. Neither of mine have also never had a problem with cats, infact they are sometimes scared when the cats hiss. But humans, that's another deal. Both have been extrememly protective. Overall great dogs, but they need quite the amount of attention. Once you step out that door they will be howling and howling for you to come back.

BTW, other boxer owners, do your dogs get those little black stubs on their fur? Mine has 2 of them but my dad says a lot of boxers get them. It worries me because sometimes they bleed quite a bit. Also, with all the dog food recall, what are some good brands I can switch to? Thanks, sorry for the long message.

Yup mine does that too. And forget yelling at her, she literally goes off and sits in a corner and stares back over her shoulder at you like, AWWWW, my feelings are so hurt. A Boxer sulking is one of the most pathetic yet funny sights there is!

... and have accidently scratched me with their paws.
lol yeah Tess punches me for attention all the time and NAILED me with her claws yesterday.

BTW, other boxer owners, do your dogs get those little black stubs on their fur? Mine has 2 of them but my dad says a lot of boxers get them. It worries me because sometimes they bleed quite a bit. Mine gets cysts between her toes pretty often. The vet says they are a food allergy, and they get really bad when my stupid friends feed her people food, even though I have told them a million times she's allergic to a lot of the ingredients in it.

Also, with all the dog food recall, what are some good brands I can switch to? Thanks, sorry for the long message.:
Boxers are known for their sensitive digestive systems and having food allergies.
I feed mine Iams Lamb and Rice, which is much better for them than dog foods with wheat gluten in them. Taht recall was just wet food BTW. And dry food is better for dogs because of the decreased risk of tooth decay.
As a treat, or when her skin is acting up, I give her canned mackerel. She goes NUTS for it and her coat starts to look really glossy.

bro you want a dog. a good guard dog and one of the smartest one's at that. japanese tosa they come in like 5 diff look's here's one.

05-25-2007, 07:06 PM
thing is they cost alot of money. 3000$ that alot for a dog but trust me they are worth every penny.

one-deep
05-25-2007, 07:18 PM
The Tosa varies considerably in size, with the Japanese-bred dogs tending to be about half the size of those bred outside the country. The Japanese breed generally weighs between 80 and 120 lb (30 to 40 kg), while the non-Japanese breeders have focused on dogs that weight from 120 to 200 lb (89.5 to 90.5 kg) and stand 24.5 to 25.5 inches (62 to 65 cm) at the withers.[1]

The coat is characterized by its short and smooth appearance and is often red, brindle, or fawn. Occasionally it can be a dull black, but this is somewhat rare. Maintenance of the coat is usually minimal.

The Tosa also bears many facial similarities with the Rhodesian Ridgeback among other dogs

05-25-2007, 07:21 PM
Due to its origins as a fighting dog, the Tosa Inu is not a dog for the novice owner. While most are driven to scrap with other canines, cats and other small animals are generally accepted with no issue. Early socialization is paramount for a well-rounded Tosa-Ken. These dogs are suitable for a home with children. Rough play between children should be avoided as this protective breed may read mock hostile actions toward his/her young charge as a true threat. The Tosa is a people-oriented canine which equates to most specimens doing poorly in a strictly kennel environment. Extremely intelligent, it is an easy-to-train but large breed that must be controlled at all times. The Tosa is a very affectionate dog.

In Japan this breed is also called Sumo Dog. Sumo fighters are Japanese wrestlers who engage in a very unusual style of wrestling that is over 1,500 years old. The objective of sumo wrestling is to stay on one's feet despite one's opponent's attacks and not to allow one's opponent to knock one to the floor or drive him from the ring.

This sumo wrestling is also the basis for the traditional Japanese dog fight. The Tosa is thus a "wrestling dog", and the fights are carried out according to sumo rules. The winner is the dog that presses its opponent to the ground with its body, knocks it off its feet, and holds it to the ground. Growling dogs are disqualified and are banned from further competition. Despite some rumors that they don't bite, Tosa fights do involve biting. The loser often will turn their backs away which results in a loss.

Tosa who were successful in the sumo fight received a valuable, beautifully decorated cloth apron with the crowning touch of an elaborately braided, thick hemp rope. What was demanded was not the wild fighter, the mauler, but the physically strong dog, courage paired with skill, patience and stamina

sorry for all the post folks.

If you like husky's Malamutes are like big husky's and they are actually slightly less hyper.
Its been a long time favorite breed. I love bully breeds too. Alas I can't have either of those due to old cats. Right now I have a corgi that is pictured here and on all of my posts :) She was a rescue and if you like smaller dogs she is great with kids, can outrun me on a bike, herd sheep, and smart willing to please. Temperment like a less hyper border collie, looks like a cross between a collie and a weenie dog ;)

Definatley go with a bully breed, I've got a staffy who was a sheep dog at one point beleive it or not. I've also got a female APBT thats white with blue markings, they are both very good with my young children and the male is quite protective over them. I also kept a puppy from their litter, they're like one big happy family out in the back yard. I've never seen human directed aggression out of either one of them, but dont think for one second they would let a stranger in the house if I wasnt here. If you do get a bully just make sure it is well socialized and try not to chain him if you don't have to.

there are two breeds and two breeds only that i recomend for people with small children golden retriver and labs (technically its two breeds i know) and pitbulls. before you get all crazy on me for recomending pitbulls that are in my expirience the most loyal and protective dog twards small children, female pitbulls are the most likely species of dog to adopt orphaned dogs or in fact babies from another species alltogeather i would never leave my child in a room with any dog unless i had raised them and i still wouldnt feel comfortable unless its a pitbull
