I was born in 1978, so yeah. My favorite cartoons have always been Scooby Doo and Thunder Cats. Sesame Street was the bomb back in the day before they added Elmo, and Mr. Rogers taught me how to say please and thank you. Neither of those shows held a candle to The Muppet Show. Saturday evenings were special because my dad would hook up the Atari system and let my brother and I play until 9pm. My favorite games were Haunted House, Pitfall, and Pong. If Ronald Reagan was speaking on TV it ruined your night because you were going to miss the A-Team, Nightrider, or Dukes Of Hazzard. If it was the state of the union address you were fucked because you were probably going to miss all of them. My parents had a shitty old console TV that only got twelve channels until I was ten. That year we were in seventh heaven because we got old school cable. The box was huge and had a turn dial for twenty five channels, and I was introduced to the joys of Nickelodeon. Paradise! The highlight of my day was watching Double Dare and You Can't Do That On Television after school. Nickelodeon these days is complete and utter crap. Well, except for Rugrats. That show is still somewhat entertaining, but if I see one more episode of Spongebob I swear I'll hurl.

I was born in 91 but pretty much remember everything said except for ronald reagan and atari. I remember my first videogame system was a hand-me down Sega Genesis i got when i was 3 or 4. I loved it and still have it although it doesnt work. SONIC FTW! There were some wierd games back then like Toejam and Earl among others. As far as TV i remember most everything from nickelodeon. Rugrats, Doug, Ahh! Real Monsters, Double Dare, Legends of the hidden temple, What Would You Do?, Hey Arnold, Beetlejuice(the cartoon, not sure if it was on nickelodeon or not), SNICK!!, All That back when kenan and kell were on it and even before, Are you afraid of the dark?, That one show with the girl who could melt into silver stuff (The secret life of Alex something) Pete and pete, so many others!

I loved watching Mr. Rogers, sesame street, the muppets, muppet babies, Barney when i was really little (grew out of it by 5), tons of others.

p.s. I hated Winnie the Pooh!

playing tackle football at the high school against other kids from other blocks
after we won or lost, the losers did a beer run and we all got drunk

i remember scamming with this chick at garfield hs after a party one night
and just as things were getting good an earthquake hit

transformers were the shit

following the train tracks for as far as we could walk

riding bikes all over doing crazy stuff

exploring and playing in abandon buildings

I WISH THINGS WERE LIKE THAT AGAIN
KIDS NOW A DAYS ARE BORING WHEN IT COMES TO ADVENTURES

GreenLadyOfDankDowns
03-30-2007, 04:16 PM
I'm with you there Friendowl. When I was a kid the rule was until supper time your ass had to play outside. Adventures were the order of the day. Abandoned buildings were always a plus, because we always thought they were haunted and that just made for a great kiddie adrenaline rush. Remember putting pennies on the railroad tracks so they'd be flattened by a train?

I almost feel sorry for the kids now. When I was a kid all the parents knew all the kids around the neighborhood and looked out for them. Now with all the freaks it's really hard for the kids to go out the way they used to be able to. Our kids have become prisoners of the TV.

Have a good one!

I was out of it on glue and booze through most of the 90's, but i remember a bit of it. I remember TV was better. Even the kids shows.. they were just better than the crap they put on now. I used to sit in my living room all day watching cartoons drinking all my dads scotch, and sniffing his spray glue - i was an idiot.

Born in 1980 here...

I remember Reagan's Reelction, being 5 years old and walking to school by myself, getting in fights all the time with other kids in the neighborhood, getting away with murder at school,. seriously kids these days would get sent to prison for the shit I used to do as a child. I remember good fireworks in Calfornia before these weak safe and sane bullshit... before they had stupid bicycle helmet laws (and motorcycle helmet laws) I remember watching Challenger blow up before I went to school. I used to watch GI JOE religously as a kid (I love howw the used to do those "knowing is half the battle" segments) Transformers when they toys were made of metal. When you actually had to be creative with lego and erector sets. I remember Mr Rogers too and the Muppet show with Kermit and Piggie...When Disney's Alladin was the best Example of Animation. I remember the Berlin wall coming down and the First gulf war which was pretty cool to watch on TV. I remember using Apple II computers and Tandy computers and IBM XT's... I remember learing to program with Basic. My first Video game system was a Atari 2600, then I had the Sega Master system, NES, Geneis ET AL... When having a TV in your bedroom or own a cell phone actually meant you were spoiled I remember when the Iran contra scandel broke. I remember Clinton getting a BJ! Damn we had it good I feel sorry for kids these days... shit is just so lame now.

Being scared of "Punk Rockers"
learning about nuclear war (thanks Mr. Reagan) and thinking WHY?
sitting in the front seat of our van which didn't have a seat belt let alone a car seat

hearing a news story about a woman who put her baby in the oven and cooked it...feeling my world change to a scary place

Damn, time goes too fast.

Not shit huh.

It was just yesterday we used to get like 10-20 kids together and make up games based around hide-seek, capture the flag, and tag. Thinking back, we were so creative...I actually still remember all the games we made up...not all the exact rules, but the basis. Then of course, basketball, football, baseball, riding bikes, roller-blading, wrestling, building forts (we had a three floor tree fort with a couch, porch and everything about 20 feet in the air...awesome) Still see most those kids nowadays too, which is great.

Soooooo many arguements ensued from that shit haha.

Like Friendowl said, the kids nowadays are always in the house with their next generation game systems, the internet and food, no wonder they're all a bunch of fat shits. We were never in the house early 90's...always running rampant through the neighborhoods getting into trouble daily.

The 'good old days' is such an understatement.

For anyone who really wants to reminisce....this was posted a few months ago...I just had to save it...

I was thinking, maybe its like the every other decade theory. The 50s were cool and prosperous for many americans(although it was kinda square). There was so much new tech and stuff in the 50s compared to the 40s. The 60s sucked (violence, drug paranoia, Mass protests and gov't tramplin on rights). People were unhappy and wanted things to change which they did. In the 70s the fruits of 60s protestors and people who changed things came to fruition. The 70s were pretty cool like that. Cool cars too. The 80s sucked because they cracked down on drug use and society was very materialistic. People were concerned with the almighty dollar. Not to mention Mtv started in the 80s and started the retardation of music. The 90s were cool thanks to awesome tv and the fall of the Soviet Union. America was guaranteed to be #1 for a long time. This attitude of optism was reflected in many areas of society. There was good music again that started in the late 80s but really became pop in the 90s like alternative/grunge and gangsta rap. The first decade of the new millenium sucks because of 9/11 and the war on iraq. People in america(and in europe too) realized that we are not the invincible superpower we thought we were. This bad vibe of vulnerability has again been reflected in society. Music sucks because of commercialization. Only a few good artists get popular, most of them suck(which makes no sense because good music should be popular). Also it seems everyone is getting fat and kids are stuck inside because of overprotective mothers afraid their child is gonna get kidnapped or sexually assaulted. Here's to hoping 2010 will usher in a new decade of coolness.

This is my theory anyway, not sure if its completely true as i didnt grow up in the 50s 60s 70s or 80s. But from the stuff ive learned about past decades i think i about sum it up.

I was born in 89. Loved pogs, ninja turtles, power rangers et cetera. All the TV shows they had back then were awesome because parents weren't up in television's grill bitching about how they need to further contribute to the pussification of children. Ren and Stempy, Rocko's Modern Life, all the good shit. Now we've got crap like "Camp Lazlo" and "Squirrel Boy". What the hell is that shit? Are they actively vying to destroy the manliness of our next generation? I swear most men are pansies these days.

Wearing lots of terry cloth clothing in the summer. wtf was that all about?
