i really likehikeing
and i like 2 b safe and comfortable
in my back pack(depending on the length of the hike,and the type of terrane)
but i alway's have dried food,such as meat and fruit,top ramin,etc.
bug spray, soap,and a rag, towel
a medical kit
flashlite, and flint
a small pan 2 heat water and a cup
a compass, and a knife, a few nail's
fishing hook's and line
tiny container's 4 salt pepper and sugar
hooked on my pack i have some rope
a military shovel with a saw and knife blade's and an ax head
a 2 to 5 lb. sleeping bag
1 of my friend's a 2 dog's trained 4 camping
when he bring's his dog's we can bring alot more
this is all 4 a 2 day hike and camping

Yea I think the less stuff the better, more stamina for the ride that way.

Sleeping bag
L.E.D. light
Hunter knife
Bamboo steamroller
Jar of danks
Some beer/Knob creek whiskey
Fishing lines/lures
water water water
fruits, nuts
lighter, matches
few clothes

The rest can easily be found in the forest

My backpacking equipment consists of:
down bag
small tent
waterproof jar with matches, lighters, and a few J's
a ziploc bag of shredded birch bark (f'real, it's the best tinder in the world!)
water
mini mag light
little camping stove and a light aluminum saucepan
knife
small hatchet
ball of string
beef jerky yum
ramen
teabags
metal coffee cup
journal
flask of my current poison (typically either cognac or applejack)
bug spray damn skeeters
binoculars

i did 4 get 2 mention my stash but i keep that on me at all time's
and i aslo pack a magnifing glass
my food vari really do like bring cracker's and that stuff in tho's littlejar's ,especialy the pinapple 1
when he brin's he' dog's(a friend) we bring load's of food
doth dog's pack 6lb's
they could carry more. but it tire's the dog's out quicker

for less than a week

headlamp,camelpack,extra water, and/or water purification, fruit, lots of trail mix, cans of tuna, salmon, spam, cans of fruit, multi-tool, razors, first aid kit, gatorade mix

aluminum foil (BEST CAMP SHIT EVER; when i travel i will make small fires on aluminum foil for no trace camping, cook anything in it, make grills with it, put coals in it and cover for a heater, package foods and supplies, lightweight, ect ect)

ziplockbags (a few sizes for all my items&trash), rainsuit, extra socks, a towel, mp3&solar kit (go together for me), mummy bag, tent, metal cup. flashlight, zippo/fluid, extra flints, flint, axe/shovel, half a fire log, lite fishing gear, rope, climbing gear (option), nightvision (option), map, compass, gps(option), 6mil plastic, pens, notepad, camera, extra clothes

EDIT: it all depends on the hike tho
