Have any of you heard of this product? Is it as effective as using the actual plant be it smoking, vape, or eating? I'm really curious to know what everyone thinks about this synthetic marijuana alternative.

What is MARINOL and how does it work? (http://marinol.com/aboutmarinol/index.html)

MARINOL is a type of medicine called a cannabinoid. MARINOL attaches to special receptors in the brainâ??much like a key fits in a lock.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved MARINOL to treat nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy in patients who have failed to respond adequately to conventional treatments.

The FDA also approved MARINOL to treat appetite loss associated with weight loss in people with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). If you have HIV/AIDS, your health care professional may prescribe MARINOL to help stimulate your appetite.

Other important facts about MARINOL:

The active ingredient in MARINOL is dronabinol

Dronabinol is a synthetic version of a naturally occurring compound known as
delta-9-THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol)

Delta-9-THC stimulates appetite and reduces nausea and vomiting by binding to special receptors found in your nervous system

Delta-9-THC is also one of many components in marijuana. In fact, delta-9-THC is the main ingredient responsible for most of marijuanaâ??s effects

MARINOL is not marijuana. MARINOL does not contain the additional chemicals and impurities associated with marijuana.

Well, it would be effective as a medicine. However, you can't control it as much. Compare it to special brownies. When you smoke, you can stop when you have reached the right limit. When you ingest it, it's a shot in the dark dosage wise. To get the correct dosage without overdoing it, smoking/vaporizing is the best method.

The thing I don't like, is that this has only been approved for treatment of two conditions whereas there are many more for which people use marijuana. Also from the wording on that website I can't tell if it's only to deal with lack of appetite and nausea or if it will help with pain as well.

marinol is not really good medicine. it seems to work OK when used with pot, but the cannabinoids present seem to intensify the effects of THC. since these are not in the pill alone, the pill doesn't really work. also many patients can't keep the pill in their stomach long enough for it to do any good. the only way i have ever actually gotten high from marinol is vaporizing the gel inside.

I've never taken the pill and have no reason to..but I've heard that many people get too high from the THC in the pill as it is more concentrated or something...

I also understand that the pill takes up to even an hour to produce effects/relief...I'd rather be able to take a couple tokes and have my appetite stimulated instantly than swallowing a pill and waiting a long time..

Just another way for big pharm to make money...Marijuana is harmful, but only harmful to pharmaceutical companies' profits and to their profits only...they'll never get me to take any fucking chemicals...I'm done with pills. I'll grow marijuana forever to make myself feel better...I don't need any help from the doctors or the government.
