Hey Gang
Looking into buying a clone machine here shortly. Will be needing a forty site machine and I went to the local Hydro Store and found they have 70 site machines for $349.00 - pretty good price I think. The company is American Agritech and the name of the machine is the Power Cloner. I always do research before buying products, and I came home and read some reviews and I was surprised to find that most of the comments about this comapny/their clone machine were negative. Most people said EZ Cloner is the only way to go. What are your experiences?

Whoa, are you Richie Rich or something? You can get a seed starter, clone barn kit including a heating pad and clear cover with 64 sites for under 50 bucks! Or just get yourself a clear plastic dome, a box of Dixie Cups and a bag of rooting pellets and get the same results for under 20 bucks!

Don't forget the Clonex and spray/mist bottle.

here is what I'm talking about. It produces rooted clones in 10 days to 2 weeks and very easy to maintain. The Rapid Grow rooting pellets fit into the holes and pretty much does everything by itself as long as you mist them several times/day and keep them covered and warm, as close to the flouro's as the dome will allow. The pellets will also fit into small styrofoam and Dixie cups as shown in the 3rd pic. I get around 90-95% success rate with this set up and Clonex along with clean and 'sweet' water, which is probably the most important item when making clones.

it's under $180 and has 36 holes. work's like a charm.I have a 100 percent success rate.

Interesting... so the cutting just goes into the rooting pellets and that doesnt disrupt root growth? Have many a friends who have cloning machines, just figured they buy them because the success rates are real high. Always in the mood to save some cash tho! =)

What brand of clone machine is that? I would def. throw down that type of cash with success rates like that. Do tell

My opinion on my EZ Cloner was:
For sale! Cheap!
:D
I sold the silly heavy bulky fussy thing and spent $35 on a propagation dome and heat mat, another $10 on a bag of rapidrooters, and am happy as a clam.
100% survival the first try.
Seriosuly... under 'advanced' I think- the who has the best cloning technique thread... totally trouble free.

Can't say I'm upset to hear Stinky telling me he runs his clones for a super cheap price - homey has his shit dialed and I listen to his words!

So Stinky... basicly you use that RapidRooter shit as your medium...what do you put it in? I've read something as simple as dixie cups would work just fine - you agree?

I guess the one huge plus for cloning machines is that you don't need to worry about misting the babies... but I am guessing you mist yours several times daily or what? You don't have a pump shooting water up onto the bottoms of the cuttings right?

Thanks for the info stinky you da man

P.S with the dome...do you place the fluro a few feet above it? does that penetrate the dome and give the babies enough light? not a newbie with growing but havent done jack shit for cloning so certainly appreciate the info peeps

There's a couple pics in this thread.
The propagation trays are formed with holes that accept rockwool or rapidrooter plugs. I like rapidrooters sooooo much. And clonex, but my fertilizer guy is convincing me to try dip-n-grow next time I run out.
I mist them 2 times a day. Even with the ez cloner I was still misting 2x a day actually.

Oh and btw I guess you haven't noticed yet... I'm a chicklet... not a dude last time I checked :D

Yes, Rapid Rooter works great and fit inside of dixie cups perfectly! I've also packed the cups tight with clean, quality potting soil only then pushed a hole into it with a nail (which I also use on every pellet to clean the hole for easy entry of the cutting) then used the cup just as I would a pellet. They don't grow quite as fast this way but is a quick fix for when you run out of Rapid Rooters (BTW, I also use a heavy dose of Clonex on each one). Cuttings I took 13 days ago are now growing through the Dixie cups that holds the Rapid Rooters in place (with a little soil) and I'll be spending the rest of the day potting 50-some clones...which I'm not looking forward to doing so I'm stalling by coming here to check on what's going on.

The dome should fit as close to the top of the cutting as possible allowing for different heights of course, then your flourescent light as close to the top of the dome as possible. The one I show in my pics is available at any grow shop and runs around 3 bucks for the dome, another 3-4 for the black plastic tray the dome fits fairly snugly on. The clone kit comes with another tray that fits inside the main tray that will hold up to 64 cuttings in recessed holes made for rooting/seed pellets with a small reservoir in the bottom for watering pellets through the wick process. They also come with a heating pad and the clear plastic dome.

I use rockwool and my afghanis root in a week, northerns 2 weeks, under a regular domed tray at 80 degrees.

I am thinking I'll grab the cloning kit that is relatively cheap, seems like alot of people get good results without going off and blowing $400 on a clone machine. Will keep you guys posted on the proccess. So madeline, thanks for the input and description. One last question... so do the bottoms of the clones sit in the resi with water in it..or is it pumped to mist the clones from the bottom? Thanks in advance, new to this stuff.

Yeah I suppose even a rubber maid would work. Good call. I am going to the store tomorrow so I will let you guys know what option I picked. Thanks for all the advice.
