Okay, look i'm aruging with my mother she keeps on insisting that marijuana is a drug, and that its bad for you, and she doesn't believe that it could help her bipolar/manic depression, so could someone gather some information, and stuff and type it in here, so i can convince her!

Long-term use of psych meds themselves carries a host of side effects, which have been poorly evaluated in long-term studies â?? kidney and liver damage chief among them, along with nausea, weight gain, sexual dysfunction, sleep interference, and hair loss. And they talk about the side effects of marijuana? By comparison, pot's side effects are almost minimal.

its a drug - a drug is something which alters your state of mind, or something.. but just because its a drug, doesnt mean its bad.. alcohol, chocolate, coffee, cigarettes, etc are all drugs
but yes, marijuana is known to help with bipolar disorders, depression, stress, etc

MJ is an intoxicator like alcohol
its different than something like nicotine in tobacco
Marijuana is considered a hallucinogen by the US drug laws
Alcohol is considered a disassociative
Cocaine, nicotene and caffiene are considered amphetamines.
They're all drugs. The anti-depressants you get from your doctor are also drugs. All drugs have side-effects which differ from person to person. What cures one person may not cure another.
Marijuana has shown many medical uses in easing the pain of glaucoma and many other chronic diseases. It's also shown to help a lot in reducing anxiety, but whether its truly shown to help with bi-polar disorder is up to your own research. It may make a bi-polar person feel more relaxed, but I dont know that it helps in balancing the off-set chemicals in your brain that are affected by bi-polar disorder.

erm.. a lil terminology confusion going on here guys.
coke is a stimulant. so is caffeine, nicotine and amphetamines (speed)
http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/cocaine/cocaine_law.shtml
PCP and ketamine are classified disassociatives.
http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/dxm/dxm_health1.shtml#iv
theres some debate whether to lump pot with hallucinogens or sedatives but its classified hallucinogen

im pretty sure that alcohol is classified as a depressant. disassociatives are drugs that seperate your mind from your body or so i was reading.

yes marijuana may be a drug but why cant it be a herb at the same time? while there are many other drugs out there made by man like pharmecueticals and other over the counter healing drugs, there are also drugs made by mother nature that heal and those are called herbs! there are two different kinds of herbs:culinary herbs and healing herbs. Marijuana is definetly a healing herb! i am really high rite now so if you dont understand it well then your a FUCKING MORON and dont try to fucking argue with me cus that is how it is and there is no other truth!

Cannabis is a plant.
Humans use the plant in a variety of ways; one of them being manufacture of materials, such as hemp.
The other method of using the PLANT (a natural thing) is to smoke it.
I guess that we call it 'a drug', because it has a neuralogical effect (ie, psycodellic) on our brains when we smoke it.
We drink coffee to 'wake us up', we drink alcohol too...all of these things has an effect on our bodies - inevitable really, because they become a part of our 'contents'.
Like, if you put salt into water, the water becomes salty; the salt has affected the water by changing its chemical structure (ingredients)
Cannabis is not a drug, it is a plant - we use it AS a drug...
I dunno, maybe I'm not making sense...Prozac is a drug, because it is manufactured as such.
I'm gonna start rambling now, but fuck it....lmaooo
A cow is a cow.
But we use the cow in a variety of ways; manufacturing clothes, and for food.
When we eat the cow, it has an effect on our bodies....
The cow doesnt become food, until we eat it....therefore, it should follow that cannabis doesn't become a drug, until we use it as such...untill then , it is a plant - nothing more.
'Herb' is used as a term of endearment, I think, not as a classification of its plant-status.
Basil is a herb, as is Rosemary....they got married and had Herbie...which was a car...
...hang on.....errr...
Right, so yes...no, cannabis isn't a herb in the same vein as Thyme...but thyme waits for no man....and I'm tired......much like Herbie has tires..four of them....well, five, if you count the spare.....
Just think of it as 'grass'...another term of endearment....otherwise, we would have fields of 'grass' with cows eating it...which, when we eat the cows, would totally fuck us up, I think....hahaha, I wonder how many vegetarians there'd be then!!!
Yes, .....so, what was the question?

One day, we'll all look back on these days and say "wow, I wonder if I could count the pixels on my screen. One...two...three...four...hehe...(time elapses)...five. Man, I gotta poop."
Oh, and as for all the semantics on drug classification, every drug has multiple classifications. For example: alcohol is a barbituate (depressant) and disassociative. Yes, if you drink enough, you will lose physical control over your body.
One last thing: cocain and crack are not narcotics. The term narcotics refers to opium and its derivatives, from morphine to heroine. I got hooked on codeine in seventh grade, but that's another story.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that marijuana is both a drug and an herb, in addition to being a spice and incence.

codeine makes my hands get all puffy. its like all the codeine gets a couple of drops of water as friends, and they go and have a party in my hands, so they get all big and funny-feeling and I can't work my fingers...found that out with Tylenol 3! which really sucked, because I was supposed to take the Tylenols for actual pain (recovering from toe surgery) and I couldn't do anything with my hands when I did! so I had a week off work to recover, and I couldn't play on my PC or any video games
