View Full Version : I know the 5 minute edit time has been discussed a million times before...

but is there any easy way to change the 5 minute window to where if you go back and click the edit button at 4.5 minutes, you can still sit and edit your post for as long as you keep the window open?

Wow that was a windy sentence... Anyway, I understand the point of the 5 minute window, but it is a pain when you are trying to play beat the clock.

So, in summation, is there anyway to allow us to edit our post for longer than 5 minutes as long as we click the edit button before 5 minutes expires?

Sorry if this question isn't very clear, I'm having a hard time expressing what I'm trying to say...

no, if you do, there will be a notice saying that you have run out of time

Yeah, I know it's like that now, but what I'm asking if there is something simple that can be done to change that.

This has been gone over so many times. I cant for the life of me figure out why there is not a longer edit time.

It would save many misunderstandings and it would be easier for a bunch of stoners to fix their mistakes, without having to beg a mod to do it.

It is so simple to set up. Why they don't do this is beyond me

Well, you're right eric, it HAS been gone over, time and time again...

But at this point, there's nothing us mods can do. I think 5 min. is ample time, to be honest. It's not that big of a deal..

I have a solution for you all though.

Two words: Preview Post

You'd be surprised what a little proofreading does.

Being a slo typer I would like the edit time increased as well,,,also internet lag is a prob sometimes... I was always for it... I however am more aware of it and somewhat post more cautiously...

With your solution I can see abuse,,,one could open a window for days nulling the rule...

if u vote for billionfold to be mod he will increase the time to 7 minutes

a vote for BF is a vote for equality

I realize the value of previewing. But sometimes people make mistakes. Even after previewing.

A few more minutes would make a difference. This keeps coming up because it is so simple to correct and it is also a valid suggestion.

Not trying to start anything, this is out of sheer curiosity..

Why is there a 5 minute time limit to begin with?

I've been to a lot of forums and I've never seen such a thing, so I'm just wondering why impose such a limit?

(I'm not arguing for, or against it, I'm just curious why)

While we're at 6, can we get maybe 7? How about 10?

Oooh, and while we're at 10, I think 15 sounds more reasonable..

Why not 30? No reason not to have 30

That...OR...it really isn't a big deal..

There are more important things that should be dealt with first. ~

One of the main reasons for the 5 minute edit is because of all the backbiting and tattle-taling that goes on each and every day. If the edit time was increased a member could edit his BS away therefore making it even a bigger pain in the butt to resolve. that is one of the older answers that have been passed down. The other is

Preview Post. Peace
