View Full Version : Anyone use MJ for medical purposes?

I have a condition called a hiatal hernia. And a bad case of it. Basically, my esophagus is pinched between a hole in my diaphragm. Pretty much what it does is put me in the most pain and discomfort that I have ever felt, every minute I am awake. I was put on a medicine called protonix. It worked great at first, but quickly quit working. The only thing that helps 100% is cannabis. I learned what I already knew(that it helps) on a medical website that put this condition on a list of conditions treatable by cannabis. The THC dilates the diaphragm, which relieves the pressure on my esophagus. The city I go to school in not only legalized medical marijuana, but even decriminalized all possession under 35 grams; great right! The only problem is that my parents have know that I smoked, and tell me they will test me, and will quit helping me pay for school if I fail. It sucks and I really don't know what to do. If I smoke, I'm fine. Otherwise, I get the most pain anyone could ever imagine.

I'm wondering if anyone else uses cannabis for medical purposes and if so, does your family have any problems with it?

I use cannabis daily to prevent migraines and my adult sons give me flack for it. Frankly, I don't care! THEY have never wanted to bang their heads against a wall because of the pain! THEY have never felt like screaming when a bright light hits their eyes! THEY have never had sounds go through their heads like a knife! When I went to college (at age 50), I was using food stamps, a PELL grant and doing work/study (2 jobs- tutor and bio lab slave). It wasn't easy, but it can be done! I graduated with honors. i had a hiatal hernia, but had it stiched up (and the doc took pictures for me!). almost 10 years later, i haven't had any problems from it. do you also have reflux? they often go together.

I use cannabis to clear my brain from the stresses of this world and ease my pain from daily actives in my life. I do heavy lifting at my job and it relaxes my acheing body.

Without it, I feel horrible

I use to smoke cannabis on a daily-4 times a week basis. Helped me sleep, keeps me from being in a bad mood, helps me eat, all types of stuff, nothing too serious. But the main reasons are for insomnia, mood swings, and anxiety/panic attacks/paranoia. Hoping to get a reccommendation from a doc, but i'm a bit young so it probably won't happen. I wouldn't even smoke that much, just enough. But hey, how can a doc trust a teen not to smoke too much weed?

I was in a car accident around a year ago..few months after it I started getting back pains..painkillers fucked me up and made me an addict for something that didn't even help me..Marijuana does nothing but good for my pain and allows me to function properly at work and school..not legal in my state yet but I hope it soon will be..I will be moving in a couple years but it would be nice for them to change the laws before then...

Get information about how cannabis treats your condition and show your parents...?

If this doesn't miraculously go away, I'm getting the motherfucker worked on. I don't know how bad yours was, but I feel as if I have hydrochloric acid in my esophagus. Every minute of my life. I cannot imagine anyone feeling any worse pain, and if people have felt worse and had the patience to bear it, they are a fucking saint and deserve the damn powerball.

Yea terrible reflux. To put it in perspective, last sunday I tried to eat my first meal of the day. I was so damn hungry. But I couldn't eat. I took two bites of a sandwhich, and it made me throw up. When my medicine quit working, after I had to take a break from MJ, I lost 10 pounds in a week. And I am a skinny motherfucker too.

oh yeah, i know that searing esophageal burning. medication doesn't help at all (or didn't in my case) because it's a physical, structural problem. you have a hole in your diaphragm! when i had the hernia repair (and i was 17 at the time), i also had a procedure called a nissen fundoplication - basically 1/4 of my stomach was wrapped tightly around my esophagus, kind of like a beef roast. now, my stomach acid stays in my stomach, where it belongs. i can't throw up, but it was absolutely completely worth it to stop that pain.

I may just print out the city ordinance regarding medical marijuana, and get a recommendation from a doctor here, and confront my parents and tell them that it helps. I'm still scared of what they'd do though. I mean, no matter how many times I say "I hate my family and never want to see them again", I don't entirely mean it. I mean my dad doesn't have a very good record of treating me and my brothers with respect, but he's still my dad. I only have one, and if we end up cutting ties, I know I will regret it later.

They just don't understand the frustration of being in absolute pain, and the only thing that helps worth a damn is illegal.

Question. What exactly do they do? Like do they have to open your whole chest? I have a huge fear of anything penatrating my skin.

nope, they do it laproscopically. I have 5 small scars, each about an inch long, in a sort of circle around my belly, and one right above my navel. sometimes i tell people i had a bellybutton ring ripped out, and sometimes i tell them i was shot, just to see if they believe me.
