I read this and I'm curious if this is a common method....and effective.

"Cut young growth tips from a vegetative stage, mature weed plant 3-5 inches long with a stem diameter 1/5-1/10 inch. Cut with a sterile razor blade or X-acto knife (flamed) and immerse the cut end of the clone into a tub of distilled water mixed with ¼ tspn Peters 5-50-17 per gallon. Next, cut the bottom .2 inch off the end while it is submerged, using a diagonal cut. Remove the clone from the tub and dip into a liquid cloning solution following instructions on the label. "

Can't I just go straight to the cloning solution? What are the benefits of using the distilled water and perers mix and cutting them again under water?

Thanks!

yes you can go straigh to the rootone. imo, this doesn't make a difference whatsoever; but some swear by it. i never do, just cut with scissors and dip in powder and in the medium it goes...

hope this helps

I cut it twice, because the first cut may seal the stem with an air bubble. The second cut I do underwater.

lol the first time i tried, it confused the hell out of me. this one plant, the branches n everything were like straws. cut it and i look...whoa, how am i suppose to do any crazy techniques with it being that thick n hollow. so i'd cut em real fast n dip em into a bowl of water where i'd cut em again, then dip em in the clone gel asap. big bud x NL worked really nice and i eventually gave em away to a friend, they r living as we speak ;). too bad he's flowering em with some fluorescents ahahaha sucker!

I love that quote, it makes it sound so much more complicated!!!
I don't make my 2nd cut under water, nor do I flame my tools. I just use a VERY sharp new razor blade and get the cut tip immediatley into gel. Also I water the moms REALLY well about 2 hours befor ecloning so they are all nice and plump and aren't suckin' air. hahaha
Gels are better than rootone imho esp. since they seal the cut really well and avoid air bubbles later.

The air bubble thing is a perpetuated myth,it doesnt happen.get you some good barber shears or very sharp scissors where you can basically cut straight up the stem exposing a huge amount of surface area,45 degrees is for beginners lol go for 15-20 degrees, simple to do with sharp scissors.Cuts need not be done under water believe me if that were the case most of us would have embolism's or anurism's sounds more like analism's to me lol

I don't use scissors cuz I'm concerned of pinching; prefer to use a surgical blade. I don't do the underwater thing either. di prefer to use the gell as it sticks to the stem better. since I have some of the powered stuff left over from when i didn't know about the jell, i sometimes mix a bit of it in while watering, just to get rid of it. Hardly ever lose a clone.

Each to there own lol .The norm in cannabis growing .Everyone developes their own methods that work for them. There is a genral rule of thumb but multible varatoins to cloning .its really what works for you.be safe the postman.
