As I was smoking a few bowls I get a random thought of 420 and its origins, for 5 years now I have always referd to the meaning of 420 hitlers birthday (april 20) (04-20) and I always thought it was celebrated at 4:20 on april 20, but i remember kids now smoking on random days at 4:20, so I googled it to find its orgins and suposingly it has many diffrent myths

1) 420 was a dispatch code for maryjuana cops used....
2) People beleave 4:20 pm is the best time to smoke and appreciate herb...
3) Snd some say hitlers birthday, wtf why smoke on his birthday.

And some more I forget about now.

So what are your thoughts of 420?

No, it started with a group of kids in the '70s. Their time to light up everyday was 4:20 pm and it stuck and kind of became tradition.

i also heard that in america when students were looking for flat mates they would put 420 friendly on the add to let people know your good to toke with them.

Yup... They went to San Rafael High School in San Rafael, CA... They would meet up every day at 4:20 at the Louis Pasture statue to smoke... :bong:

There isn't any way of proving any of that.

But in my case it's funny cause, I wake up around 2:30 in the afternoon so I end up smoking at 4:20 (either first or second time if i wake n bake).
And I get home from work at 2:00 in the morning. So I end up smoking at 4:20 (usually its my last bowl of the night).

lol. I'm always smoking and realizing that it's 4:20. It makes me smile everytime.

I was under the impression it was a group of folk in the 70's in north america who used to meet up at 4.20pm and toke. Where's Lip when you need him!?!

It's obviously a celebration of Hitler's birthday. Hitler was a huge hippie pothead and almost all the potheads I know look up to him. We smoke at 4:20 to remember all the great things he did to spread peace, love and ganja.

being from canada though i especialy liked the one about the highway

I know it was Hitlers birthday, but that of course was just coincednce, obviously. I had always thought 420 was the copes code for possesion of marijuana

but the thing is, i heard 420 wasn't even the cops code for marijuana.
but im not sure if i believe that, because i saw a cop walk by me once and the walkie talkie said "we got a 420 over here."
so yeah... i dunno..

so yeah... i dunno..I think what happened was that they adopted it as code for marijuanasince it's such an easily recognized euphamism
